EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended February 19, 2012, is Bekzod Abdurakhmanov, from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Abdurakhmanov is a senior at Clarion University and competes at 165 pounds.
This past week, Clarion wrestled Kent State and Lock Haven University, and nationally ranked Bekzod gained a pin and a tech fall in his two bouts. With those two victories, Mr. Abdurakhmanov elevated his season W/L record to an excellent 28-4.
On February 17, 2012, Clarion hosted Kent State. Clarion lost the dual meet, but Abdurakhmanov pinned his opponent in 4:02. On February 19, Clarion hosted Lock Haven, edged the Bald Eagles 19-18, and Abdurakhmanov tallied a tech fall (18-3) in 7:00.
The tech fall against Lock Haven was worth five team points, and raised Abdurakhmanov’s team-point total in EWL vs. EWL dual meets this season to 31. Bekzod gained 31 team points in his six intra-league dual meets by racking up three pins, two major decisions and one tech fall, and secures for him the EWL award for the wrestler who earned the most team points in EWL vs. EWL dual meets for the 2012 season.
Congratulations to Bekzod Abdurakhmanov, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.
We also tip the EWL headgear to the University of Pittsburgh wrestling team and coaches. On February 17, 2012, Pittsburgh hosted Edinboro University and defeated the Fighting Scots 26-10. By that victory, the Panthers concluded their 2012 EWL intra-league dual meet schedule undefeated at 6-0. This is the third consecutive season that Pittsburgh, which has one of the best dual meet teams in the nation, has won the EWL Dual Meet Championship. Moreover, the Panthers completed the 2012 dual meet season with an overall W/L record of 14-2. Good job guys!
This is our final Wrestler of the Week selection for the 2012 season. Our next league event is the EWL Tournament, which will be held March 4, 2012, at Clarion University. We look forward to seeing you there.
