EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 6, 2011, is Chris Honeycutt, a senior at Edinboro University, from North Ridgeville, Ohio. This past season, competing at 184 pounds, Mr. Honeycutt won the PSAC Tournament, the Southern Scuffle, the EWL’s, placed fifth in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and completed the year with a W/L record of 31-2.
This season Honeycutt is competing for the Fighting Scots at 197 pounds, and is back to his winning ways at his new weight. On November 6, 2011, Chris won the Buffalo Open, racking up five victories at the event. Honeycutt stated with a 10-4 decision, then racked up back-to-back tech falls by scores of 16-0 and 19-3. In the semi finals he majored Kadeem Samuels of Lehigh University by a score of 11-3. In the championship final, Honeycutt downed nationally ranked Matt Wilps of the Pittsburgh Panthers 11-3.

We also tip our headgear to six other EWL grapplers who won tournament titles this past weekend. Besides Honeycutt, there were five EWL wrestlers who won Buffalo Open titles. They are: Anthony Zanetta of the University of Pittsburg at 125 pounds; A.J. Schopp of Edinboro University at 133 pounds; Mitchell Port of Edinboro at 141; Tyler Nauman of the University of Pittsburgh at 149 pounds; and Zac Thomusseit of Pittsburgh at 285 pounds. Further, on November 6, Lock Haven University’s Dan Neff grabbed the 141-pound crown at the Clarion University Open.
