EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 3, 2010, is Chris Honeycutt, who is junior at Edinboro University, and competes at 184 pounds. Honeycutt is from North Ridgeville, Ohio, and is a former Ohio State champ. He is competing unattached this wrestling season, while redshirting.
On December 29-30, 2009, Honeycutt competed in the rugged Southern Scuffle, and came through with five victories and the 184-pound title. In his first bout at the Scuffle, Honeycutt won 5-3. In his next outing he majored Dylan Temple of Appalachian State 11-1, then pinned Eric Cameron of the University of Indiana in the quarter finals.
In the semi-finals Mr. Honeycutt decisioned the number two seed, Steve Bosak of Cornell University, by a final score of 5-2. In the finals Honeycutt faced highly ranked and number one seeded Dustin Kilgore of Kent State. The bout was tied 3-3 midway through the third period. Kilgore then took Honeycutt down and was riding him, but Chris gained a reversal with about 20 seconds remaining and turned Kilgore for a two-point near fall before the final buzzer, to win the match 7-5.
Congratulations to Chris Honeycutt, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.
