EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 15, 2009, is Jarrod King, who is a graduate student at Edinboro University, and competes for the Fighting Scots at 165 pounds.  On November 7, 2009, Mr. King, the defending NCAA champion at 165 pounds, won the title in the Eastern Michigan Open.  This past weekend, King took first place at the Oklahoma Gold Tournament, held November 14 at Brockport, NY.

King drew a bye in the first round of the Oklahoma Gold event, then, in the quarter finals, majored his opponent from Army 16-2.  In the semi finals King shut out his Rutgers' foe 14-0.  In the finals, he decisioned nationally ranked Colt Sponseller of Ohio State University by a score of 8-5.  This season the Connellsville (PA) native is undefeated, sporting a record of 7-0.

Congratulations to Jarrod King, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.

Further, the EWL tips its headgear to seven other EWL grapplers who won tournament titles this past weekend.  In that connection, West Virginia University had five champions in the Washington & Jefferson Open (held November 14th).  The five Mountaineers who won titles are:  Colin Johnston at 125 pounds; Donnie Jones at 165 pounds; Matt Ryan at 184; true freshman Cameron Gallaher at 197; and Brandon Williams at 285 pounds.  We had two winners at the November 15th Michigan State Open, with Cleveland State's Jordan Keller grabbing the crown at 125 pounds, and Edinboro's Chris Honeycutt gaining the gold at 184 pounds.  Good job guys!
