EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 10, 2010, is James Fleming, who is a true freshman at Clarion University. Last year Fleming placed fifth in the 2009 PIAA AAA Tournament, competing for West Mifflin High School at 160 pounds. This season Mr. Fleming is wrestling down at his fighting weight - 149 pounds.
On December 8-9, 2009, Clarion competed in the historic Virginia Duals, finishing with a record of 1-2 in the showcase event. In their first match at the Duals, the Golden Eagles beat nationally ranked Old Dominion University 20-18. Fleming helped lead his team to victory by tech falling his opponent 17-2. In the quarter-finals Clarion lost to the powerful Oklahoma State squad, but Fleming pinned the Cowboys' nationally ranked 149-pounder, Quinten Fuentes, in 4:06. In the consolations Clarion dropped its dual meet with Michigan University, but Mr. Fleming tallied another pin, this one in 3:46.
