Edinboro University's Deonte Penn
The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 10, 2006, is Deonte Penn, a senior from Solon, Ohio, who competes in the 165-pound weight class for Edinboro University. This past weekend Penn - a comprehensive business major in school and an NCAA All-American in wrestling - led the 12th-ranked Fighting Scots to two dual meet wins.
On December 9 Edinboro traveled up to Buffalo to wrestle the University at Buffalo Bulls, and came away with a 31-6 win. In that meet Mr. Penn pinned Buffalo veteran, Mike Ragusa, in 4:18. On December 10 the Fighting Scots hosted Lock Haven, and beat the Bald Eagles 45-0. In that dual meet Penn pinned LHU's high-octane freshman, Landis Wright, in 0:59.
Edinboro head coach Tim Flynn noted, "Deonte is great for our fans…he is a guy who is always looking for the fall!" The two pins this past weekend give Penn a total of six this season, and elevate his W/L record to 12-2. Coach Flynn also commented that Deonte Penn is a very likeable kid and a pleasure to have on our team.
Edinboro's dual meet record now stands at 8-1. Next up for the Fighting Scots is the Southern Scuffle at the end of this month, then their next dual meet event will be the Virginia Duals in Hampton, VA, on January 12-13, 2007.
Congratulations to Deonte Penn, our Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week!
