Lock Haven University's Josh Medina

The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 18, 2005, is Josh Medina, a senior, who competes at 149 pounds for Lock Haven University. Josh, from Las Vegas, transferred to Lock Haven after his sophomore year at Pima Community College in Arizona, and is majoring in criminal justice.

This past Sunday (December 18th) Medina racked up three wins in LHU's three dual meets at the Clarion Duals. In his first bout of the day Mr. Medina majored his opponent from Kent State by a score of 14-2, then defeated the Drexel University competitor 9-3, and concluded the afternoon with a 9-4 decision over his Pitt-Johnstown rival. The Bald Eagles' cracker-jack 125 pounder Obe Blanc also went 3-0 on the day.

Last season Josh Medina won the PSAC Tournament, the EWL's, went 2-2 at the 2005 NCAA Tournament, and logged a record of 29-8 for the year. This season Josh aims to repeat his PSAC and EWL titles and do even better at the NCAA's.

In addition to Josh Medina's fine performance at the Clarion Duals, the League tips its headgear to two additional EWL wrestlers, Keith Gavin of the University of Pittsburgh and Joe Fendone of Edinboro University, both of whom won titles at the Cleveland State Open on December 18. Gavin won the crown at 174 pounds and Fendone at 197. Good job guys!

Congratulations to Josh Medina, our Eastern Wrestling League's Wrestler of the Week and to Keith Gavin and Joe Fendone on their CSU Open championships!
