Edinboro University's Shawn Bunch

  The Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week for the week ended January 2, 2005, is Edinboro University's 133-pound ace Shawn Bunch.  Mr. Bunch is a junior from Kansas.

  On December 29-30, 2004, Bunch won the title at the Southern Scuffle, held in Greensboro, NC.  In the opening rounds Shawn majored opponents from Virginia Military Academy and Gardner-Webb.  In the quarter finals he decisioned Citadel veteran Ryan McClester 13-6, and in the semis beat Minnesota University pit bull Mack Reiter 7-5.

  In the championship final Shawn Bunch beat Cornell University's Travis Lee by a score of 11-10.  Earlier this season Lee had edged Bunch 6-4 in OT.  Travis Lee, a senior, is a three-time NCAA All-American and won the 2003 NCAA Tournament at 125 pounds.  Fans are looking forward to the next meeting between these two warriors, which could happen in March at the 2005 NCAA's.
