Cleveland State University's Joe Dennis
The EWL wrestler of the week for the week ended February 13, 2005, is Cleveland State University's Joe Dennis, a true freshman from Urbana, Ohio. As a high school senior wrestling for St. Paris Graham, Dennis was one of the best 215 pound, pre-college wrestlers in the nation. After enrolling at Cleveland State, the question was whether Joe would become one of the best Division I rookie 197 pounders in the country, or one of the best heavy weights. That question now has been answered, as Mr. Dennis competes in the 285 pound weight class and keeps racking up the wins.
This past weekend Dennis anchored the
Cleveland State Vikings to two EWL dual-meet wins. On Friday, February 11,
Joe secured a pin in the final ten seconds of his hwt match, giving Cleveland
State a come-from-behind 22-20 victory over Edinboro University. On
Sunday, February 13, Joe assured the Vikings a win over Clarion University by
winning the final bout of the afternoon 10-7. The final score of that dual
event was 25-18. Mr. Dennis has become one of the CSU team leaders, and
aims to win the upcoming EWL Tournament and take no prisoners at the 2005 NCAA's.
Congratulations to Joe Dennis, our Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week!
