ATHENS, OH—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team won the final seven matches of the day as the Huskies rolled to a 25-6 win on Sunday night. The victory capped a big weekend for Bloomsburg, which also beat West Virginia 25-10 on Saturday.

“The guys did a great job this weekend,” said Huskies head coach John Stutzman. “I am excited for the team. Even the guys who lost this weekend wrestled their hearts out. Next up for us is Edinboro (on Friday) which is going to be a real battle.”

The match started at 184 pounds with the Bobcats Ryan Garringer scoring a 13-7 win over the Huskies Sam Shirey (Beaver Springs/Midd-West). At 197 pounds, Bloomsburg's Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown), ranked 31st, won by major decision 13-5 to put the Huskies on top 4-3.

At heavyweight, Bloomsburg's Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) lost to seventh-ranked Jeremy Johnson, 6-1 giving the Bobcats their final lead of the day at 6-4. From there it was all Bloomsburg.

At 125 pounds Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) won by decision, 9-3, followed by an 8-4 win for Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) at 133 pounds giving the Huskies a 12-6 lead.

Derek Shingara (Shamokin/Shamokin) kept the winning going for Bloomsburg with a narrow 3-2 win at 141 pounds, while #32 Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) scored a 9-3 win at 149 pounds.

Bloomsburg's Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney), ranked 11th, posted a 4-2 win at 157 pounds followed by a win for Chris Smith (Mineral, Va./Chancelor) at 165, 7-2. The night ended when BU's Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) beat 13th-ranked Nick Purdue 7-4. For Dessino it was his second straight victory over a ranked opponent after beating the 20th-ranked wrestler against West Virginia on Saturday.

The Huskies, 14-4, wrestle at Edinboro on Friday at 7 p.m.
