Michigan State 30 Lock Haven 6
December 3, 2011
The Haven got wins from Owen Wilkinson (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) and Bobby Rehm
(Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor).
Today's dual started at the 149-pound weight class and Wilkinson quickly put LHU
up 3-0 with a 3-0 upset of No. 18 Dan Osterman.
Wilkinson and Osterman exchanged first period shots, but neither wrestler was
able to gain an upper hand in the bout. With just 11 seconds left in the second
period, Wilkinson scored a crucial escape to go up 1-0 after five minutes.
Just 18 seconds into the third, Wilkinson scored a takedown as Osterman chose
neutral to start the period. Wilkinson was able to ride Osterman out and knock
him off for the huge early season win.
Anthony Jones earned a 7-3 decision over Jake Kemerer (Greensburg,
Pa./Hempfield) at 157 to make it 3-3 in the team scoring, but back-to-back
Spartan major decisions at 165 and 174 had MSU in command of the match.
Following Wilkinson's win at 149 to start the day, Michigan State won six
straight before the two teams were back at 125.
Rehm used three first period takedowns to set the tone against MSU's Brenan
Lyon. Lyon fought back and Rehm held just a 7-6 advantage late in the match, but
Rehm again scored on a takedown with less than 10 seconds to go in the match to
seal it.
Lock Haven hits the mats again tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 4) at the Nittany Lion
Open, hosted by No. 5 Penn State. Following Sunday's Nittany Lion Open, the Bald
Eagles will travel to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Championships on Saturday, November 10 at Mercyhurst College.
