Wrestling drops nail biter at Hofstra; Pride tops Bald Eagles 20-19
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Bald Eagles won the last four bouts of the match, but it wasn’t enough as the Lock Haven University wrestling team (0-2) was edged by host Hofstra University (2-2-1) 20-19 in a non-conference thriller.
Each team won five bouts on the day.
The match kicked off 141 pounds and the Pride went up early thanks to a Lock Haven forfeit.
Sophomore Brock Parker (Canton, Pa./Canton) quickly got The Haven back on track with a solid 4-2 win at 149 pounds.
Hofstra went on two win the next four matches before the Bald Eagles closed things out with four wins of their own.
Harry Turner (Howell, N.J./Howell) put Lock Haven back on track with a win at 197. He took down the Pride’s Anthony Tortora 5-1.
Dan Craig (Paw Paw, Mich./Allegan) made it back-to-back LHU wins after picking up bonus points at heavyweight. Craig recorded a 16-7 major decision over Paul Snyder.
Nick Hyatt (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) notched a win for the Bald Eagles at 125.
John Trumbetti (Montvale, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) closed out the night with a 8-2 win over Jamie Franco at 133. Franco is ranked No. 13 at 125 pounds.
The Bald Eagles return to action at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 29 & 30.
