Clarion Wrestlers Compete In Blue-Gold
(Clarion, Pa.): The annual Blue- Gold match is history as the Clarion University Wrestling team showed local fans what the Golden Eagles will look like in the 2009-10 season.
Fourth year head coach Teague Moore looked on as his Golden Eagles wrestled in front of about 400 fans at Tippin Gym on Friday night.
Wrestlers going 2-0 on the night included Joe Waltko (Fr. West Mifflin) at 125, Jay Ivanco (Jr. Monroeville) at 133, Bryan Smith (Fr. Coopersburg) at 141, Greg Lewis (Sr. New Providence) at 149, Justin McCrillis (R-FR. Greenville) at 165 and Clint Podish (So. Sycamore) at 184.
In matches of interest, freshman James Fleming (149 - West Mifflin) defeated two-time NCAA Qualifier Hadley Harrison (157 - McKean) 4-3. In a big battle at 149, Greg Lewis then defeated Fleming 4-2.
Clint Podish defeated Steven Cressley (174, Fr. Punxsutawney) 2-0 and also defeated likely starter Alex Thomas (197, Fr. Seaford, De.) 6-5.
Freshman 125-pounder Joe Waltko was 2-0 defeating Zach Oberlander (So. York) 7-3 and Trey Hicks (Fr. Amityville, N.Y.) 3-2.

Clarion Opens the dual meet season next Saturday at the Body Bar Invite in Ithaca, N.Y.
CLARION NOTES: Not wrestling tonight with illness or injury were Scott Joseph (174) and Nick Milano (165)… Milano was just out for today … Joseph will be out until the end of December.
