#20/7 NORTHWESTERN DEFEATS CLARION 29-3
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) Clarion University’s wrestling traveled to North Allegheny High School and wrestled #20 ranked Northwestern at Noon on Saturday with Wildcats winning 29-3.
Clarion returns home tonight to host Pitt-Johnstown at 7pm.
Northwestern won 9 of the 10 weight classes, including two, one-point decisions, while Clarion’s Jamie Luckett posted a victory for the Golden Eagles at 197.
Luckett defeated Aaron Jones at 197 by a 5-4 final score. Luckett had two takedowns in the first period to lead 4-2. Jones escaped in the second and Luckett escaped in the third. Jones added another escape in the third to narrow the margin to 5-4, but Luckett registered the win. He is 10-3 on the year.
Two exciting matches were wrestled at 157 and 174. Clarion’s #17 ranked Hadley Harrison wrestled #16 Jason Welch with Welch getting the win 6-5. Welch opened with a takedown in the first and Harrison countered with a reversal to tie the bout 2-2 after one period. Welch escaped, Harrison posted a takedown and Welch reversed back to take a 5-4 lead after two. Harrison escaped in the third, but Welch had 1:02 in riding time and ended up winning with the extra point.
Joseph meanwhile lost in overtime 8-7 to Robert Kellogg. Down 6-4 to start the third, Joseph escaped and took Kellogg down with about 40-seconds left to lead 7-6. Kellogg escaped to tie the match. In overtime, Joseph had to take a second injury time, which gave Kellogg choice. He chose down and escaped to win 8-7.
In other matches Northwestern’s wins came from Brandon Precin (ranked #3) who decisioned Clarion’s #19 Jay Ivanco 8-2 at 125, Bobby Joyce decisioned Danny Galvan 7-2 at 133, #6 ranked Keith Sulzer decisioned Sal Lascari 6-0 at 141, Andrew Nadhir decisioned Chri sLascari 6-3 at 149, Kyle Bertin decisioned Dom Ross 7-2 at 165, #1 Jake Herbert won by technical fall over Clint Podish 26-9 at 184 and Ben Kuhar decsioned Roman Husam 8-2 at heavyweight.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion is 2-4 this season and will wrestle tonight at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium against Pitt-Johnstown…. Match time is 7pm.
